Moisture-Proof Storage Standards
Compressed wood pellets have an extremely low moisture content (≤7.5%). However, because wood is hygroscopic, improper storage will cause pellets to absorb ambient water vapor, swell, crumble into sawdust, and clog stove augers.
Safe Pallet Stacking Guidelines
- Never Place Directly on Concrete: Concrete slabs draw ground dampness. Always store bags atop wooden pallets elevated at least 10 cm above the floor.
- Maintain Wall Ventilation Gaps: Leave a 10-15 cm air corridor between pallet stacks and exterior walls to prevent condensation dampness.
- Indoor Dry Shelter: Garages, dry basements, or sheds are ideal. If storing under outdoor carports, wrap stacks with a breathable waterproof tarpaulin while leaving bottom ventilation.
The FIFO Rule (First-In, First-Out)
Always practice First-In, First-Out inventory management. Burn through older stock before opening newly delivered pallets, ensuring fresh, crisp pellets with peak heating efficiency throughout winter.
